Purpose of the Position

To coordinate training and orientation for all Simpson Health Center direct caregivers along with the development of an ongoing mentoring program. Instill Friendship Haven’s mission, vision and values within each employee along with Friendship Haven’s philosophy of resident centered care. Assist the DON with facility infection prevention and control program (IPCP) which is designed to provide a safe, sanitary and comfortable environment and to help prevent the development and transmission of communicable diseases and infection.


Education Coordinator Responsibilities

• Will be trained and proficient in all areas of campus that require caregivers/nurses/companions to ensure all are trained correctly for each assignment.

• Assists in developing orientation curriculum for all new caregivers/nurses/companions and ensures each new hire receives a comprehensive orientation.

• Partners with designated Supervisors to help develop a training calendar and topics needed for skills fair offered to campus caregivers.

• Partners with Human Resources for coordination of orientation and to stay current on Human Resource polices needed for on-boarding.

• Must be proficient with AOD and Point of Care along with staying current with updates to provide needed training to new staff members.

• Ability to practice and train all new caregivers in the STAGE rules.

• Develop a tracking system to complete care reviews with all new hires within 6 months of their hire date.

• Work with each area of campus to design a check off list for their specific area of skills that will have to be demonstrated by each employee before being scheduled in their specific neighborhood.

• Demonstrate critical thinking skills and be adaptable to working with many personalities.

• Possess excellent follow-through skills and be self-motivated to work independently.

• Assures staff training is effective by asking participants for feedback and formal evaluation.

• Attend meetings as needed and sit on committees, as requested.

• Round on a regular basis to help mentor all caregivers and provide input or expertise where a need is discovered.

• Attend meetings as required, such as QAPI and Nurse meetings.

• Coordinate annual IV training with Unity Point at Home, Wound Center, Diabetes and Hospice competency and validations.

• Assist Coordinators with annual nurse and CNA competency and validations.

• Assist with tracking data on care reviews completed, observations made, feedback given and follow up, as needed.

• On call rotation with SHC Supervisor Nursing team, as assigned.

• Ability to work all shifts to meet staff training needs.

• Collaborate with the facility leadership and DON to develop, implement and evaluate the annual skills fairs, neighborhood meetings and nurses meetings.

• Assist DON with the oversight of the antibiotic stewardship program.  

• Cover Coordinator duties, when needed or directed by the DON.

• Obtain CPR educator certification.

• Will work one scheduled shift, at a minimum, in the Neighborhoods as directed by the DON per pay period.

• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Level of education to communicate effectively.

• Licensure: RN, LPN, or CMA required.

• Experience: Working in aging related environments.

• CPR Certification or ability to become certified.


Physical Demands

• Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves during work hours.

• Willing to work beyond normal working hours, and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

• Should be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.


Mental Demands

• Subject to frequent interruptions.

• May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, families, and visitors.
