Examples of Duties


Constant (67-100%)         

  • Meet one on one with clients in a business advisory capacity in-person and through virtual correspondence.
  • Connect clients with other entrepreneurs and provide encouragement and support
  • Listen to business idea, experience of the client and status of development.
  • Guide client through developing a viable business model and business plan
  • Assist clients with financial projections business plan writing, marketing strategy, customer development, financing the business, staff development, bookkeeping and other essential elements of starting and managing a business. 

Frequent (34-66%)

  • Network within the business community to interact with potential entrepreneurs on a grass roots level. Actively participate and contribute to the entrepreneurial network and ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with other counselors and organizations on resources and approaches to help clients advance their business concept. 
  • Assist with marketing efforts of the center including client communications, email marketing, social media posting and event planning.
  • Participate in training and development programs including workshops, classes, and business development cohorts.
  • Provide guidance and direction on formation items such as forming a business organization, registration/permits and compliance. Refer to proper agencies for additional help.
  • Provide navigation for various resources necessary to implementing a business
  • Assist Regional Director with fundraising efforts necessary for the NCI SBDC center. 

Occasional (10-33%)

  • Attend state-wide meetings as required
  • Serve on committees as necessary
  • Serve on the Advisory Committee
  • Be willing to travel if it becomes necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

1.         Be able and willing to represent Iowa Central Community College in a positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.

2.         Will have excellent computer skills with a strong attention to detail. 

3.         Will maintain detailed records of leads for follow up and retention

4.         Will follow up and continue communication with leads

5.         Will provide detailed and accurate information about the SBDC

6.         Wil provide a positive and encouraging environment for clients and a strong environment of support.

7.         Will work in a proactive manner with a mission to help client define and achieve a viable business.

8.         Will be able to exude a ‘can-do’ attitude and map out a development plan.

9.         Will be an outstanding listener and help clients effectively think through their approach in coming to their own conclusions. 

10.       Will be able to represent the SBDC in the most positive manner with clients, counselors, and the communities we serve.

11.       Will plan, organize, and implement assigned responsibilities with self-directedness and initiative.

12.       Will welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experience, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences. 



Qualifications


Associates Degree required with a minimum of 5 years business experience. Equivalency by training and experience considered. Must demonstrate exceptional business and communication skills. Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation to activities away from the NCE SBDC office.
