Food Service Supervisor - Simpson Health Center

Purpose of the Position:

To provide nutritious and appetizing meals for our residents following sanitation guidelines in the Simpson Health Center and Journeys kitchens.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision for the Simpson Health Center and Journeys dining operations.
  • Supervise food production for the Simpson Health Center/Journeys and assisted living neighborhoods following facility standards for food quality, customer service, and sanitation.
  • Assist with planning and implementing menus for both regular and modified diets utilizing standardized recipes.
  • Meet and coordinate with the facility’s dietitian as needed to meet residents’ dietary requirements.
  • Maintain daily and monthly temperature documentation.
  • Responsible for assisting with annual budget preparation, review of monthly/quarterly/annual budget compliance, and taking corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ordering groceries & supplies via authorized FH vendors.
  • Organize and conduct regular team meetings, along with a weekly cooks’ meeting.
  • Attend resident dining committee meetings.
  • Maintain Simpson Health Center and assisted living resident and guest meal counts.
  • SHC dining employee schedules along with coordination of any shared staff from Simpson Health Center Dining program and other departments.
  • Interview, orientate, and train all new Simpson Health Center dining staff.
  • Assist with planning and production for special events, as needed.
  • Attend required staff meetings and be appointed to needed committees for dining program representation.
  • Ensure all records required by HR are submitted and maintained on a timely basis.
  • Order and track supplies needed from Central Stores.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a diverse workforce.
  • Cycle menu writing utilizing meal patterns established by the most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
  • Working with and modifying standardized recipes
  • Experience working in aging-related environments
  • Be able to work independently and cooperatively with coworkers and other departments working as a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills with residents and guests.
  • Well-organized and neat work habits.
  • Must be able to work within time limitations.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of Friendship Haven.
  • Abide by Friendship Haven Standards of Personal Performance and Code of Ethics.
  • Proficiency in writing and communicating with other team members.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Significant experience or professional training in quantity food production.
  • Education: Culinary or Food Service experience required. Long Term Care experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Be ServSafe certified, CFPP certified, or be willing to become certified within 9 months of hire.
  • Certified Dietary Manager or be willing to become one within one year of hire.
  • Completed course on Modified diets and their implementation.
  • CPR Certified, or the ability to become certified.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves during work hours. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Willing to work beyond normal working hours, and on weekends and holidays when necessary.

 

Mental Demands:

  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, families, and visitors.
